The Academy of Business Disciplines will hold its Eleventh annual meeting in Ft. Myers Beach on November 5, 6, and 7, 2009 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday.) We invite you to participate by submitting an abstract, proposal or paper for presentation at the annual meeting.

The meeting will be held at the DiamondHead Convention Center located on the Gulf of Mexico on Ft. Myers Beach (see their web page at www.diamondheadfl.com). A number of suites have been reserved for $115 to $140 per night plus tax. These suites offer a view of the beautiful white sands, glorious sunrises and sunsets, a master bedroom, fully equipped kitchenette in the living room and screened in lanai. Participants may make reservations by calling DiamondHead at 800-625-4111. Be sure to tell the registration clerk that you are attending the ABD meeting. There are a limited number of these suites available at DiamondHead so you are strongly encouraged to make your reservations early.
 
If you require transporation from the airport, we highly recommend the services of Comfort Transportation (www.comfortontheweb.com).

The ABD will include your paper or abstract in the proceedings (which is not copyrighted) that will be sent to participants after the meeting (late February.) Participants may, if they wish, have their papers considered for publication in the academy's refereed Journal of Business Cases and Applications.

One award each will be presented for the best paper on Basic Research; Teaching Research; Teaching Innovation ; and Student/Faculty Collaboration. If you wish to have your paper considered for the awards you must submit 3 hard copies of your complete manuscript (abstracts, proposals, outlines and briefs cannot be considered) to ABD, PO Box 285, Michigan City, IN 46360 by the conference submission deadline. The awards are open to all tracts and multiple submissions will be considered. The recipients will be announced and the awards presented at the annual meeting in November.

The award recipients will receive a plaque and a waiver of the Journal of Business Cases and Application submission fee.

Abstracts, proposals or papers should be submitted no later than June 15, 2009 along with a submission form. Notifications to authors will be provided by July 15, 2009. The notification email will include instructions to authors as well as a registration form. A registration fee of $250 ($125 for graduate/undergraduate students) is due by September 1, 2009 ($300 after 9-1-08). The fee for multiple papers is $125 per paper.

We encourage authors to submit their proposals or abstracts via email. The document should be in Microsoft Word, if not included in the body of the email. Please include a cover page with: Title,
name, address, phone, e-mail address(es) and track preference. Please e-mail ALL submitted proposals, abstract or papers, along with your submission form,  to Joy Swedeen at academy_of_business@hotmail.com.

A registration form will be emailed to individuals whose papers are accepted or who send emails indicating they wish to attend, and possibly serve as a session chair, but not present a paper.
 
 

         
 

ABD 2009 SPECIAL PANELS &TRACKS

In addition to our normal business discipline tracks (Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, etc.) the following new tracks and topics have been added for this year’s conference.

 

      1.  AACSB Presentation and Discussion Session (Jerry E. Trapnell, Executive Vice President &

3.     DOCTORAL STUDENT Paper Track

A special track is scheduled to provide a forum for doctoral students to present their research.

4.     STUDENT/FACULTY COLLABORATION Track

 

Collaborative student/faculty efforts in research; writing; or projects are excellent ways of engaging our students in scholarly activities.  Such efforts and examples involving students (undergraduate/masters) are encouraged to submit for presentation.  Student participation is particularly welcomed.

5.     CASEWRITERS Track

Cases in all business disciplines in any stage of development are encouraged for submission to this track. Case submissions can take one of two forms:

(a)  Embryonic Case: a case under development for which you would like input and feedback. Please submit an abstract or vignette no longer than 5 pages, double-spaced. These cases will not appear in the proceedings.

(b)  Full Case: a nearly complete or finished case. Please submit the case write-up, not to exceed 15 double-spaced pages, along with the teaching note, not to exceed 10 double-spaced pages. The teaching note will NOT be published in the proceedings so the case will still be viable.

When submitting a case, please also indicate if the case is a real-world case, a disguised case, or a fictitious case.
